What Uplifts Us: How Loss, Change, and Growth Reveal What Matters Most

What truly uplifts us when life feels heavy?

This question has shaped my work, my listening, and most deeply — my own life. In therapy rooms, in conversations with clients and colleagues, and in my own moments of uncertainty, I’ve watched people do something remarkable. They fall. They hurt. They gather themselves again. And slowly, quietly, they rise.

That rising — that inner resurgence of courage and clarity — is what my book UPLIFTING: Inspiring Stories of Loss, Change, and Growth attempts to honor and illuminate.

Inspired by the work of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

UPLIFTING was written in the spirit of the late Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, whose research taught us that loss, change, and transition — while painful — are not meaningless. They are portals. They ask us to shed old identities and step into more compassionate versions of ourselves.

This book brings together stories of people who lived through eras of disruption, heartbreak, unexpected transformation, and deep unknowing. What they all have in common isn’t a neat ending — but a lived process of becoming more fully human.

These stories don’t promise that pain disappears. They do show that meaning, resilience, and growth can emerge even amidst grief.

Loss, change, and growth are universal

Everyone has a beginning, a breaking, and a becoming.

Loss reminds us of what we love.
Change invites us to evolve.
Growth is the gentle return to ourselves.

This is why UPLIFTING matters: because it honors the experience — not the outcome.

Here are some of the questions the book asks:

  • What happens when we are stripped of our assumptions?

  • How do we find footing when everything familiar shifts?

  • How can we welcome new identity without resisting the process?

These are not abstract questions. They are the questions of everyday life.

Stories that stay with you

A reader recently wrote to tell me how a story in UPLIFTING helped them shift from endurance to embodied presence. That’s the heart of why I wrote this book.

Not to erase pain.
Not to avoid change.
But to see it, sit with it, and transform through it.

If you’ve ever felt:

  • shaken by a transition

  • unsure what comes next

  • disconnected from your own strength

  • longing for meaning that feels real
then UPLIFTING is a companion for that territory.

A gentle invitation

This isn’t a book of answers.
It’s a collection of witnesses — to loss, to hope, and to human resilience.

If you pick it up, let it sit beside you. Read slowly. Let the stories stir something familiar — not to fix you, but to recognize you.
